1. Hong Kong Port Collision

On February 28, 2025, a maritime incident occurred at Hong Kong’s Kwai Tsing Container Port, involving the 14,000 TEU ONE Columba, operated by Ocean Network Express (ONE), and the anchored 7,060 TEU Clifford Maersk, operated by Maersk Line. The collision took place as ONE Columba attempted to berth after sailing from Shenzhen, China.

At the time, Clifford Maersk was actively discharging containers, and the impact caused three containers to fall into the water, later retrieved. Fortunately, no crew injuries or oil spills were reported.

2. Impact & Vessel Damage

Reports indicate that ONE Columba suffered a 2-meter-long breach in its bow, while Clifford Maersk sustained minor structural damage. Local sources suggest ONE Columba may have lost power just before the collision, which could have led to the accident.

3. Official Statements & Operational Updates

A Maersk spokesperson confirmed that Clifford Maersk was hit while berthed in port, but after inspections, the vessel departed for its next destination. Similarly, a ONE spokesperson stated that ONE Columba had undergone a safety check and resumed its voyage toward Ningbo, China. Meanwhile, Clifford Maersk is now headed to Shanghai.

4. Ownership & Leasing Details

Clifford Maersk was sold in 2017 under a leaseback arrangement to Bank of Communications Financial Leasing, while ONE Columba is owned by Anchor Ship Investment, a Japanese ship finance company.
