Thanh Huyen, a 13-year-old girl from An Giang, should have spent the summer before eighth grade enjoying simple days with her family and friends. Instead, she found herself traveling to Ho Chi Minh City for one of the most important heart procedures of her life.

Diagnosed with a heart abnormality at the age of five, she had been under ongoing medical observation. In August 2026, doctors at University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City determined that she urgently needed an intervention to treat her atrial septal defect (ASD) for her long-term health.
